Each quarter, we partner with an artist to bring the visual spirit of the season to readers as a limited edition print, celebrating art and literature side by side, and their abilities to transport us in our daily lives.
For Winter 02, we are honored to partner with Brooklyn-based artist Samantha Hahn
. I was first introduced to Samantha's work a few months ago in a way that I look back on now as pure kismet. In late August, I was flipping through an advanced copy of Christiane Lemieux's The Finer Things,
and came across Samantha's illustrations that beautifully mark each chapter of the book -- you must grab a copy to see for yourself, they are stunning. I had wanted to add illustrative elements our website and when I saw Samantha's work, I knew she was just the person to bring the quarterlane website to life.
I immediately e-mailed her and she has been a key supporter and collaborator with quarterlane since. Alongside the illustrations you see on our website, she has provided essential creative direction for both quarterlane and our sister editorial space, The Edit
. She has been a sounding board and guide for me and has such a heart for books and understands a story's essential ability to shift our perceptions and change our lives.
Samantha Hahn is the author of two books: A Mother is a Story: A Celebration of Motherhood and Well-Read Women: Portraits of Fiction's Most Beloved Heroines. We are thrilled to include Well - Read Women in each Winter 02 box alongside the limited edition print. Samantha's work has been internationally exhibited from New York to Hong Kong, has been featured in numerous art and design books, and has been chosen for American Illustration a number of times.
She works with a range of clients including:
